While staying in Korea with a student visa (D-2), I’ve married a Korean national.   I would like to change my visa status to a marriage migrant (F-6). What would I have to do?



If a foreigner staying in Korea wants to change his/her visa status,  the foreigner shall be granted an authorization for visa status change before the expiration of his/her stay.



1. Scope of Applicant  A visa status change must be applied for by the visa holder himself/herself.  If the applicant is under the age of 17 and does not apply for a visa status change, his/her parent, de facto dependent, sibling, guarantor, or cohabitant shall apply for a visa status change.



2. Submission of Documents  A foreigner requesting to receive authorization for visa status change shall submit the following x-documents to the immigration center / foreign office before its expiration:  Application for authorization for visa status change  Documents required for each visa status



3. Booking a Visit  Any person intending to apply for visa status change must book a visit to the immigration center / foreign office online.  However, online booking may be exempted for pregnant women, persons with disabilities, or any other foreigners under the relevant law.  ※ Visa status change may be applied through e-petitioning at the “HiKorea website (www.hikorea.go.kr) – Petition Application – E-Petitioning.” There may be restrictions for some visa statuses.
