Visa, Passport Visa Extension www.easylaw.go.kr 찾기쉬운 생활법령정보 로고

I am currently staying in Korea with a visa, but have recently learned that my period of stay will come to an end soon. How can I extend my stay (or visa)?

A foreigner wanting to stay longer than his/her original period of stay must apply for authorization of visa extension before its expiration.

1. Scope of Applicant A visa extension application must be made by the visa holder himself/herself. If the applicant is under the age of 17 and does not apply for a visa extension, his/her parent, de facto dependent, sibling, guarantor, or cohabitant shall apply for a visa extension.

2. Submission of Documents A foreigner requesting for visa extension authorization must submit the following x-documents to the immigration center / foreign office before its expiration: Application for authorization for an extension of stay Documents required for each visa status

3. Booking a Visit Any person intending to apply for visa extension must book a visit to the immigration center / foreign office online. However, online booking may be exempted for pregnant women, persons with disabilities, or any other foreigners under the relevant law. ※ Visa extension may be applied through e-petitioning at the “HiKorea website (www.hikorea.go.kr) – Petition Application – E-Petitioning.” There may be restrictions for some visa statuses.

For details about visa extension, please visit or contact: HiKorea website (www.hikorea.go.kr) – Immigration/Stay Guide – Foreigner Stay – Extension of stay Immigration Contact Center (☎ 1345)
