Visa, Passport Visa Exemption www.easylaw.go.kr 찾기쉬운 생활법령정보 로고

I thought every foreigner must get a visa to enter the Republic of Korea. However, I recently learned that there are some cases where no visa is required. What are the cases where you can enter Korea without a visa?

A visa is a fundamental requirement for permission to entry, but a person authorized to reenter Korea or a person from a country that executed the visa exemption agreement with Korea may enter Korea without a visa.

1. Visa Exemption A person subject to the following may enter Korea without a visa. 1. A person who is authorized to reenter Korea or is exempt from re-entry authorization who enters the country before the end of the period for which the authorization or exemption was granted 2. A person from a country that executed a visa exemption agreement with Korea and is subject to visa exemption under the agreement 3. A person who is granted a separate entry permission for the purpose of entering Korea for international goodwill, travel, or the country’s benefits 4. A person who is issued a refugee travel certificate and enters Korea before its expiration

2. Advance Travel Authorization Even for those subject to visa exemption, advance travel authorization is a must. Advance travel authorization is a system that requires a foreigner intending to enter Korea without a visa to enter his/her personal and travel-related information on the website to receive travel authorization. A foreigner intending to enter Korea without a visa shall check whether he/she is subject to advance travel authorization. ※ Please visit the Korea Electronic Travel Authorization (K-ETA) website (www.k-eta.go.kr) for detailed information about advance travel authorization
