Sanitary management of a kindergarten
□ Management of environmental and food sanitation
○ The head of each kindergarten shall properly maintain and administer environmental sanitation in accordance with the following criteria (Article 4(1) of the 「School Health Act」 and Article 3(1) of the 「Enforcement Rules of the School Health Act」).
- Control of ventilation, lighting, illumination, temperature and humidity in a kindergarten building
∙ For the standards of control of ventilation, lighting, illumination, temperature and humidity, and structure and installation of ventilating equipment, please see Attached Table 2 of the 「Enforcement Rules of the School Health Act」.
- Prevention and management of hazardous substances such as hazardous heavy metals
∙ For more information on the prevention and management of hazardous substances such as hazardous heavy metals, please see Attached Table 2-2 of the Enforcement Rule of the School Health Act.
- Installation and management of water supply, drainage system, and lavatories
∙ For more detailed information on the standards for installing and managing water supply, drainage systems and lavatories, please see Attached Table 3 of the 「Enforcement Rules of the School Health Act」.
- Prevention and control of air pollution, asbestos, waste, noise, volatile organic compounds, germs, dust, etc.
∙ For further details about standards for maintaining air quality, etc. in a kindergarten building, please see Attached Table 4-2 of the 「Enforcement Rules of the School Health Act」.
- Management of tableware, foodstuffs and drinking water
∙ For further details about food sanitation, such as the management of tableware, foodstuffs and drinking water, please see Attached Table 5 of the 「Enforcement Rules of the School Health Act」.
□ Sanitary inspection
○ The head of a kindergarten shall perform inspections in the following way so as to determine whether environmental sanitation and food sanitation in a school building satisfy the above standards (Article 4(2) of the 「School Health Act」 and Article 3(2), 3(3) and Attached Table 6 of the 「Enforcement Rules of the School Health Act」).
○ The head of a school shall record and preserve the results of inspections and, when the results of an inspection fail to meet the above standards, shall take all necessary measures, such as supplementation of facilities, etc. (Article 4(2), 4(4) of the 「School Health Act」 and Article 3(4) of the 「Enforcement Rules of the School Health Act」).
□ Disinfection to prevent infectious diseases
○ Kindergartens (only those which accommodate 50 or more kindergarteners) shall conduct disinfection necessary to prevent the spread of infectious diseases ( Article 51(2) of the 「Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act」, Article 24-12 of the 「Enforcement Decree of the Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act」 and Article 36(4) and Attached Table 7 of the 「Enforcement Rules of the Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act」).
- Period: From April to September

※ Any kindergarten which fails to properly disinfect its premises shall be punished by an administrative fine not exceeding 1million KRW (Article 83(2)-2 of the 「Enforcement Decree of the Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act」).
